Making school parking safer in Parramatta

City of Parramatta has teamed up with Sydney start-up Spot Parking to help parents find out where to safely park when taking their children to school.

The Safe School Parking Finder is an online tool covering 60 schools in and around Parramatta. The interactive site is designed for pre-journey planning and shows parents and carers where they can safely and legally park around their child’s school.

“The Safe School Parking Finder is especially useful for parents and carers whose children are enrolling in school for the first time,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said.

“The tool will allow parents to familiarise themselves with the area around the school and avoid potential risks and fines by highlighting drop-off zones, no stopping areas, safe parking spaces, and designated disabled parking.

“Ultimately, this tool can make our City’s school zones safer and better organised.”

The Safe School Parking Finder is a map-based website available in 15 different languages, including Arabic, Armenian, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Dari, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Persian (Farsi), Punjabi, Tagalog (Filipino), Tamil, and Telugu.

“The Safe School Parking tool is a great example of how Council can facilitate good planning, community engagement, and enabling technology to create a smarter, safer City,” Chair of Council’s Smart City Committee Cr Steven Issa said.
