Parramatta moves towards a solar future

City of Parramatta Council is embracing a more sustainable future having joined the ‘Our Solar Future’ program to deliver quality solar installations to the community.

An initiative of the Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (SSROC), the program helps households install rooftop solar power, solar hot water and heat pump systems through trusted solar photovoltaic (PV) suppliers who have undergone rigorous quality check reviews.

“The market is currently flooded with various installers, conflicting advice and no guarantee of quality, making it difficult to find trusted solar PV suppliers,” City of Parramatta Administrator Amanda Chadwick said

“A panel of quality installers verified by the Alternative Technology Association have been identified through the program to help residents and businesses select and install the best solar systems for their individual needs at an affordable price.”

The decision to join the initiative was made following recent community feedback on City sustainability which revealed that almost 1 in 3 people find a ‘lack of knowledge’ to be a key barrier to reducing their energy use.

“By guiding individuals to trusted suppliers who take the hassle out of solar installations, the program helps eliminate the uncertainty that exists around adopting more sustainable energy practices,” Ms Chadwick said.

“It is our hope that through this program, we are able to significantly increase the uptake of renewable energy within the City, and help residents and local businesses save a substantial amount on their energy bills.”

Council will be offering a $300 rebate to the first 15 households to install solar rooftop and hot water systems under the program, in a bid to encourage the move towards a solar future.
