Riverside Theatres Director Robert Love receives AM

The Director of City of Parramatta’s Riverside Theatres, Robert Love, has been recognised for his service to the performing arts as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

He has been made a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for “significant service to the performing arts, particularly in Western Sydney, as an administrator, and as a supporter of independent artists”.

Since founding his own theatre company ‘Toe Truck Theatre’ in 1976, Mr Love has enjoyed an illustrious career in the performing arts world, working at the University of Sydney’s Seymour Centre, State Theatre Company of South Australia, Sydney Theatre Company, Fox Studios and News Limited before commencing as Riverside Theatres Director in 2000.

"The award provides an opportunity to spotlight the significant work and contributions of many working in arts and culture in Sydney's west and to thank those that have supported Riverside since its opening in 1988," Mr Love said.

"I really have been most fortunate to have been cast in a great role at Riverside Theatres for many years with a committed support team and a great backer in City of Parramatta Council.

"Of course there is still much more to be seen performed on the Riverside stages and screens. So the work continues as Parramatta moves towards its exciting future."

City of Parramatta Council Administrator Amanda Chadwick said Council was very proud of the Riverside Director’s achievements and his efforts over many years to foster arts and culture in Parramatta and beyond.

"Robert has made invaluable contributions to Riverside Theatres and the performing arts industry and I congratulate him on his award. Under his directorship Riverside Theatres has become one of the most highly attended theatres in the country and has founded the resident theatre company, National Theatre of Parramatta. His passion for performing arts is truly inspiring," Ms Chadwick said.

"I would also like to congratulate the many other recipients from the Parramatta area who were recognised with Queen’s Birthday Honours and I thank them for their ongoing commitment to the community."
