Sydney’s biggest winter festival, Winterlight, will return to Parramatta for 17-days of magical winter fun from 5-21 July.

The Festival, now in its ninth year, is set to transform Prince Alfred Square into an idyllic winter wonderland, complete with an open-air ice-skating rink, illuminated Ferris wheel, carnival rides, night markets, cabaret shows, live music, alpine food village, interactive workshops, themed nights and more.

“Winterlight is a captivating experience for the senses.

With Sydney’s largest ice rink, live shows, amazing food stalls and a huge range of family-friendly activities, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

There really is no better way to enjoy winter,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said.

“I encourage everyone to rug up, throw on a pair of skates and come and experience everything this wonderful winter celebration has on offer.”

Kicking off at 5pm on Friday 5 July, the opening night of the Festival will feature an unlimited ice-skating and carnival rides deal for just $35 per-person, plus a dazzling Ice Queen stilt-walking display.

Adults and children alike are encouraged to put their skating skills to the test on the 7NEWS ice-rink - the largest outdoor ice-rink in Sydney. Special kids-only sessions will run at the beginning of each day, with ‘Kanga’ helpers on hand for those who require a little extra assistance.

The Alpine Food Village will have a delectable array of delicious food options from stalls such as Blackbear BBQ, Zahara Grill, Waffle Pops and Gelato Messina.

Winterlight’s popular Theme Nights are set to make a return this year, running every Thursday throughout the duration of the program. Make a love song dedication to your ice-skating partner during Date Night on Thursday 11 July, or cover yourself in glow-in-the-dark paint for Neon Night on Thursday 18 July.

Payce Light-Up St Pat’s will also make a grand comeback, illuminating the façade of St Patrick’s Cathedral from 6 – 21 July with colourful projections exploring the concept of hope.

Exclusive additions to Winterlight 2019 include Morphology, an accessible and tactile public art activation made entirely of interactive LED wires, as well as daily cabaret shows by Bamboozled Productions.

The Parramatta Night Markets – kicking off for the first time this year – coincide with the first week of the Festival, running from Monday 8 July to Thursday 11 July. An exciting addition to Parramatta’s night time economy, the Markets feature an array of artisan products from Parramatta and beyond.

Head to Winterlight on Tuesdays between 11am – 5pm for some great savings, with two-for-one value deals on all carnival rides, food offerings and ice-skating.
