Bill Thomas Reserve is a small neighbourhood park located on Victoria Road, Parramatta. It includes a playground, a path suitable for riding and grassy areas beneath trees that are ideal for relaxing.
Named after William Thomson (1892 - 1961) who was a Council Alderman representing the Parramatta Ward for a 3 year term between December 1953 and December 1956. Mr Thomson also worked as a train guard for the NSW Department of Railways.
On the 18th August 1948 he risked his life to save 40 passengers, including 15 children, from a burning train. The train had collided with a petrol-laden truck at the former Unwin Street railway crossing in Rosehill and resulted in the death of 3 passengers.
The name was assigned by the Geographical Names Boards on 20 October 1998.
