Lord Mayor's Message
Lord Mayor’s Message 5 June
Relocation of the Powerhouse Museum
I am very pleased that the Berejiklian government is keeping its pledge to move the Powerhouse Museum to Parramatta. The relocation of the Powerhouse will create more than 2,300 jobs during construction and over 3,000 full time jobs after it is completed. This will inject millions of dollars into our local economy, and attract up to two million visitors to Parramatta every year. This is great news for the people of Parramatta and Western Sydney, who are in great need of large-scale infrastructure projects like this to boost our economy amid the COVID-19 crisis. I am excited that we have a world-class cultural institution to look forward to – it will be a wonderful addition to our rapidly growing City.
New and Improved Timbergetters Reserve Tennis Facility
Earlier this week, Cr Andrew Jefferies and I visited the tennis courts at Timbergetters Reserve in Winston Hills, which is part of our North Rocks Ward. The courts have been upgraded with a new synthetic surface as well as a renovated kiosk under the Ward Initiatives Program. It will be wonderful to see the local community making use of the upgraded courts. High quality public facilities like this help to improve the quality of life for our community by providing spaces for recreation and socialising.
Remember to follow the current COVID-19 guidelines when using Council facilities, including adhering to social distancing requirements, maintaining good personal hygiene, and observing Public Health Orders.

Lord Mayor’s Cup
Last weekend, the Australian Turf Club launched their new world-class digital technology program at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse as part of Lord Mayor’s Cup Day. The new digital technology includes sophisticated LED display screens stretching 150 metres along the home straight. This will provide people with an enhanced on-course experience, allowing them to see real-time data such as jockey profiles, horses, trainers, promotions and more.
This new digital programming is an exciting addition for our local Rosehill Racecourse. Once people can return to the track, this new racing technology will help bring visitors from across Sydney and Australia to Parramatta – allowing us to show people all that our City has to offer.

Council facilities reopening
I am pleased that a number of Council facilities have reopened to the community, in line with the easing of restrictions set out by the State and Federal governments. Our playgrounds, outdoor gym equipment, aquatic facilities, skate parks, libraries, Customer Contact Centre, Heritage and Visitor Information Centre, and more are now open in limited capacity. It will be wonderful for locals to be able to use and enjoy these facilities once again.
The last few months have been tough for many people, but thanks to your patience and adherence to the health guidelines, we are able to start slowly reopening our City. Please remember to continue to take care as the restrictions ease and keep each other safe by practising good hygiene and social distancing.
