Lord Mayor's Message
Lord Mayor’s Message 3 July
Rydalmere Park upgrades
I’m delighted to announce that stage one of the multi-million dollar upgrade to Rydalmere Park is now complete. A new state-of-the-art synthetic sports field is ready for kick off, featuring new synthetic turf and wider playing field, a synthetic warm-up area, new lighting, fencing, and spectator seating. I recently visited the revamped soccer facility with The Hon Dr Geoff Lee MP, Acting Minister for Sport and Member for Parramatta, ahead of the National Premier League season restart. Funded through the NSW Government’s Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund and City of Parramatta Council, the upgrades will make a big difference to our community and sporting clubs who rely on Council’s open spaces and facilities for sport, recreation and leisure. With COVID-19 restrictions now easing and community sports able to resume, I’m looking forward to seeing our local teams enjoy this first-class pitch on home soil.

WARAMI Live: Burramatta NAIDOC Live Music Sessions
This Sunday, I’ll be tuning into WARAMI Live, a free online concert featuring some of Sydney’s best Indigenous musicians and dance groups. Hosted by comedian Sean Choolburra, the two-hour event will feature live performances by electro-soul duo Bow and Arrow, country music singer-songwriter Maddi Lyn, hip-hop artist Barkaa, soul singer-songwriter Evie J Willie, and DJ Niain. This incredible celebration will conclude Council’s first-ever digital Warami festival – a huge six-week program providing online programming marking National Sorry Day, National Reconciliation Week and Burramatta NAIDOC. Warami is a Darug word meaning ‘good to see you’. Although we can’t come together for Sunday’s live music sessions in person, it will be good to see all of you online this weekend to experience the art, music, and culture of our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
