The John McClymont History Prize is presented to the highest scoring history student attending a school in the Parramatta local government area in each year’s Higher School Certificate (HSC).

The student award recipient is invited to be presented with the award at their former High School by the Lord Mayor of Parramatta and School Principal typically at a school assembly. They receive a Mayoral certificate, prize for further studies and Parramatta book.

The John McClymont History Prize is in honour of the late John McClymont, a local historian and former president of the Parramatta & District Historical Society.

John McClymont wrote and lectured widely on Parramatta. He proudly spoke of the ‘Parramatta Story’ as the beginning of a nation – with all its struggles and triumphs, its conflicts and compromises. John also was a co-author of ‘Parramatta – A Past Revealed’ which was a publication that had been commissioned by Parramatta City Council. It is a very detailed text in the life of Parramatta.

The City of Parramatta proudly supports and celebrates culture and history.
