Historical Research Library

The Research Library is located within the Parramatta Heritage & Visitor Information Centre, which houses a broad range of research resources specialising in local studies and family history.

The City of Parramatta Council’s Research & Collection Services team provides visitors with access to research resources, archives and cultural collections relating to Parramatta’s Local Government Area.

Council’s Archives collection holds a diverse collection of material ranging from meeting minutes, annual reports, property records, maps, photographs and film footage; with our earliest record dating from 1846.

The Community Archives collection holds records created or gathered by individuals and community groups within the Parramatta Local Government Area. And contains a diverse range of material including administrative records, personal papers, ephemera and images.

The City of Parramatta cultural collection contains approximately 100,000 objects comprising archaeological artefacts, culturally significant objects, civic and ceremonial gifts and artworks.

The collection of objects, records and knowledge expresses the history and heritage of our City of Parramatta Local Government Area to its community and beyond.
