Walk4BrainCancer Parramatta

This Sunday November 17 I will take part in the Walk4BrainCancer Parramatta, a 5km walk kicking off at Old Kings Oval in Parramatta Park. This walk will honour the memory of Trent Monaghan who was an active member of the Parramatta community. Proceeds from this walk will help the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation to support people who are impacted by brain cancer. I would like to encourage the local community to join the Walk4BrainCancer and help raise funds for such an important cause. To purchase tickets to the walk, or to make a donation, please visit Walk 4 Brain Cancer 2019.

2019 Spring Garden Awards

On Saturday November 2, the winners of the 2019 Spring Garden Competition were presented with their awards. In this annual competition, winners are awarded up to $500 for their efforts in making their gardens and suburbs more beautiful. The Spring Garden Competition is a great opportunity for gardeners of all ages to showcase their skills and passion. This year, the eight categories attracted 32 entries in a range of styles - from dedicated solo efforts, to family and community projects. I would like to acknowledge and congratulate this year’s winners. Our residents, and visitors all benefit from all of the beautiful work created by our local gardeners.

Citizenship Ceremonies

Since my appointment as Lord Mayor of the City of Parramatta, I have had the honour of presiding over three citizenship ceremonies – welcoming more than 1,200 new Australian citizens to Parramatta. Our residents are from all around the world, with around 50 per cent born overseas or from a non-English speaking background. Each new citizen brings various skills and talents to our community, and forms an integral part of our vibrant and culturally diverse City. With so many cultures coming together in Parramatta, we are proud to nurture a distinctive sense of community of our very own. I look forward to welcoming more new citizens to Parramatta in the near future.
