Happy New Year

I would like to wish everyone in our community a Happy New Year – and a happy new decade. While I hope that everyone was able to have an enjoyable festive season, I appreciate that it has been a tough time for many communities in NSW and other states who are facing devastating bushfires. The City of Parramatta wishes to extend its support and thanks to the NSW Rural Fire Service, whose firefighters have been working tirelessly to protect lives and homes. Council has donated $10,000 to help them continue their courageous work. If you wish to show your support, you can make a donation to the NSW RFS through their website.

Outdoor Cinema at Sydney Olympic Park

Our summer program in the City of Parramatta is jam-packed with great activities and events.  Council is proud to be partnering with Sydney Olympic Park to present the Outdoor Cinema at Sydney Olympic Park – a wonderful outdoor activity for the community to enjoy. Located in Cathy Freeman Park, this open-air cinema features a licensed bar, delicious food, a dedicated kids play zone, and a great range of movies. For more information visit the Sydney Olympic Park website.

Sydney Festival at Riverside Theatres

This January, Parramatta will also play host to a variety of major theatre and music events as part of Sydney Festival. Events will be taking place throughout the City, including at Riverside Theatres, Parramatta Park and Prince Alfred Square. Program highlights include Lady Tabouli, a funny play that examines culture clashes in contemporary Australia, and Bran Nue Dae, a revival of the world's best loved Aboriginal stage musical, starring Ernie Dingo.

Sydney Symphony Under The Stars

I am particularly excited that Sydney Symphony Under the Stars, which is also part of the Sydney Festival program, is returning to Parramatta.

Bring your family and friends down to Parramatta Park to experience the incredible Sydney Symphony Orchestra as it performs a night of classical hits in our City’s very own natural outdoor amphitheatre.

The free concert includes famous works by Beethoven, Offenbach, Tchaikovsky and more – don’t miss it!
