Lord Mayor's Message 2 October 2020

Deputy Lord Mayor re-elected

I want to congratulate Councillor Michelle Garrard on her re-election as Deputy Lord Mayor at our recent Council Meeting. This is the first time a City of Parramatta Councillor has held the position of Deputy Lord Mayor for four consecutive years.

I'm looking forward to working closely with Cr Garrard as our City recovers from the economic and social impacts of COVID-19. We are focused on revitalising our night-time economy, supporting our local businesses and cultural organisations, and helping to deliver City-changing infrastructure projects, such as 5 Parramatta Square and the new Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

Cr Garrard, a representative of Dundas Ward, will serve in the role until the Local Government elections in September next year.

Getting active for over 55s

If you’re over 55 and wanting to stay healthy, I can highly recommend Council’s Strength and Energy Fitness for Men online class. This program has been specifically developed by Council’s Active Parramatta Van for our over 55s community and is guided by exercise professionals.

The class is free, thanks to a Sport Australia Better Ageing grant, and is delivered online so you can enjoy exercising in the comfort of your own home. Join me in learning how to regain your strength and muscle mass, as well as naturally boost your energy levels. If you are unable to join an online class, you can pick up a beginner’s home exercise booklet which our trainers can take you through over a phone booking.

To learn more and to register visit www.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/active-online or contact the Recreation Team at 9806 5269 or recreation@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au.

Biketober Business Challenge

Spring is the perfect time to enjoy a bike ride, improve your fitness, and support your wellbeing – and now you also have the chance to win some fantastic prizes by joining the Biketober Business Challenge. It’s okay if you haven’t ridden a bike in a long time - all you need to do to is log a 10-minute bike ride during October to enter the draw. Just one short ride around a local park or quiet street can help you get more active, especially while many of us are still working from home. It’s also a great alternative to using public transport or driving to work.

Jump on to register your ride and learn more at www.lovetoride.net/parramatta.
