National Volunteer Week
This week is National Volunteer Week – an annual celebration where we can recognise the important contributions that volunteers make to our community. The City of Parramatta is privileged to have more than 800 volunteers who work across several Council departments including Bushcare, Park Committees, Community Care, Cultural Heritage and Tourism, our Library Services, and Community Capacity Building. Our volunteers are vital to the success of Parramatta, with many Council programs and initiatives relying heavily on assistance from local volunteers. On behalf of the City of Parramatta, I would like to thank our volunteers for donating their time, skills, and knowledge, which has helped make a positive difference to the lives of many.
I would also like to recognise the Council staff who have volunteered to help Meals on Wheels continue to make food deliveries to our City’s most vulnerable residents throughout the COVID-19 pandemic – the commitment and compassion that has been shown is very much appreciated.
Those who are interested in lending a hand can register their interest to become a City of Parramatta volunteer here.
Other volunteer opportunities available in Parramatta can be found here.

I am pleased to announce the launch of Storybox Parramatta – a new virtual storytelling platform that offers a window into life in Parramatta through time. The interactive website features a great range of digital videos, photos, archival footage, sketches, poetry, portraits, and quotes about life in Parramatta. In addition to this, community members are able to share their own personal stories about our City. I encourage everyone in our community to explore the Storybox website and get involved. I’m looking forward to reading your stories and ideas about Parramatta’s past, present, and future, as well as sharing some of my own. Later in the year, Storybox will make an exciting transition from a digital platform to a physical installation in Parramatta Square. I would also like to pass on thanks to our partners who helped make Storybox Parramatta possible – Esem Projects, ABC Content Ideas Lab, Western Sydney University, and Story Factory.
Visit the Storybox website and contribute your own story here.
COVID-19 Resilience Grants
I am pleased that Council will be supporting community-based groups and service organisations that have been impacted by COVID-19 with $380,000 of available funding through the new COVID-19 Resilience Grants. These grants are a key component of the City of Parramatta’s COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Package that was announced in April. Local not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises can apply for funding under these grants which will help address any issues that have arisen due to the pandemic, so that they can continue to do their valuable work. These organisations do so much for our community, and I am proud Council is able to provide support in return during these tough times. Applicants are invited to apply for up to $10,000 per application, and can apply for additional funding of up to $20,000 under exceptional circumstances. We are hoping to be able to support as many applicants as possible with these grants.
