Lord Mayor’s Message 21 August 2020
EOI for Australia Day Awards Judging Panel
Council is currently calling for Expressions of Interest for voluntary membership of the 2021 Australia Day Awards Judging Panel. The City of Parramatta Australia Day Awards program recognises the local heroes who have gone above and beyond to help our community. The Judging Panel works together to review, assess and select the winners for each awards category. If you live, work, or study in the Parramatta Local Government Area and you would be interested in helping to recognise the wonderful contributions made by our very own community members, I strongly encourage you to apply.
Expressions of interest close on Friday 4 September. For more information and to apply please visit this page.City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer with the 2020 Australia Day Award winners at the ceremony held in January this year.
Victory in the Pacific Day
On Saturday 15 August, we commemorated the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Pacific Day which marks the conclusion of World War II. To honour this important anniversary, the City of Parramatta laid commemorative wreaths at the Parramatta and Epping War Memorial Cenotaphs. I attended the wreath-laying ceremony at Parramatta, which was a moving occasion of remembrance and reflection.
Earlier last week I also had the pleasure of touring the New South Wales Lancers’ Memorial Museum in Parramatta. It was a wonderful experience to get to see the ACE Matilda Tank and learn about its connection to World War II and VP Day. Check out the video below to learn more about the Lancer Barracks and what’s on offer at the museum.
