Lord Mayor’s Message 7 May 2020

Thursday 7 May

Thank you, Councillor Han

I would like to pay tribute to Councillor Paul Han, who has resigned from his position at City of Parramatta Council due to serious health issues. Cr Han has been battling cancer since July 2019, and is unfortunately unable to continue in his role as a Councillor. Cr Han has been dedicated to serving the Parramatta community for the last three years, and it has been a privilege to work alongside him. On behalf of the City of Parramatta, I would like to thank Cr Han for all of his work in helping to make our City a better place. I wish him and his family all the best during this difficult time.

Plans progress for commuter car parking in Winston Hills

I am pleased that we are another step closer to meeting the demand for additional commuter car parking in Winston Hills, along Junction Road. The Heads of Agreement between Transport for NSW, The Hills Motorway Trust/Limited, The Hills Shire Council, and City of Parramatta was endorsed during the April 14 Hills Shire Council meeting. All parties involved in this agreement are investigating how to provide additional commuter car parking, while ensuring the quality of life for local residents is maintained. This is much-needed infrastructure that will benefit residents living on The Hills-Parramatta border, who have been asking for more safe and accessible commuter parking for a long time. I’m really looking forward to seeing these plans progress, and would like to thank Transport for NSW and The Hills Shire Council for helping to deliver this important project.

Active Parramatta Online

City of Parramatta Council is committed to helping the community live fit and healthy lifestyles through its Active Parramatta programs. COVID-19 health restrictions have impacted the ways in which people are able to keep active, as we cannot currently use gyms or come together for group exercise. With this in mind, Council has launched Active Parramatta Online, which is designed to help community members stay fit while at home. There are a range of live digital fitness programs available to try, including yoga, Pilates, Zumba and more. It is important to maintain our health and wellbeing during this time, and I encourage everyone to explore the programs on offer and get involved. See full details and scheduling information

Early Learning Centres

I would like to recognise the hard work and resilience of the staff members at Council’s five Early Learning Centres who have continued to work throughout the challenges presented by COVID-19. These staff members have done a wonderful job providing local children with high quality care and education, while implementing additional health and safety measures and adapting to the Federal Government’s childcare changes. The team has also been providing support and guidance to stressed parents during this tough time. On behalf of the City of Parramatta and our community, I would like to thank everyone involved in keeping our Early Learning Centres operating.

All five of Council’s Early Learning Centres displayed ‘Rainbow Trails’, which were created by the children to send messages of hope to the community during COVID-19.
