Fabric Connections - Textile Play for Adults

Join us at the table to materialise memory, stories and knowledge in a friendly and calm environment in our new Tuesday morning program at PHIVE; Fabric Connections, facilitated by artist Linda Brescia.  

Fabric Connections is an invitation to get lost in making, sharing, learning using playful textile techniques and guided by Linda.

Free: Registrations are required. Please note there is maximum of 2 bookings per session. If you would like to enquire about bringing a group or for access requirements please contact education@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au

When: Tuesday 

Time: 11.30am – 1.30pm  

Location: PHIVE Level 3

Materials: All materials are provided – however you are welcome to bring projects you are working on as well! 

All materials are provided and Linda will also guide with prompts, potential projects, examples and guidance throughout the sessions; crochet, knitting, weaving, soft sculpture, embroidery, sewing to begin with! 

Stay for the full two hours or feel free to drop in for as little or as long as you can. Have a cup of tea and feed your hands a tactile experience. This is an opportunity to put down your phone, and pick up a pair of needles, work on collaborative projects, bring in existing works or create your own each week.  

About Linda Brescia: 

Linda Brescia is a Western Sydney-based artist who investigates the banalities and complexities of everyday life experiences and rituals through painting, photography, sculpture and performance. Her practice explores dynamics around visibility and invisibility, masking, care and self-assertion. 

The solo exhibition Linda Brescia: A Girl Like You was presented at Penrith Regional Gallery (2022), and Brescia's work has been presented in exhibitions and programs at Fairfield Museum and Gallery; Artspace, Sydney; Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre; Cementa; MOP, Sydney and Parramatta Artists' Studios where she is an artist in residence 2021-2023 at their Rydalmere studios. Her work has been collected by Penrith Regional Gallery, Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Artcell Collection Management, Blacktown City Council and private collectors. 

In 2020 Brescia was awarded the Blacktown City Art Prize for her portrait of American patron of the arts Peggy Guggenheim. Brescia has a long history of facilitating workshops and community projects for numerous organisations and groups, most recently working with women from Kingswood on a MCA C3West project.
