Plastic Free July® is recognised globally as an annual month of global change, where individuals, businesses and governments come together to take action to reduce plastic waste. By sharing ideas, positive actions and stories of change, Plastic Free July helps people and organisations “choose to refuse” single-use plastic everyday.
This year, Plastic Free July coincided with the ban of supply of lightweight plastic bags in NSW. From 1 November 2022, the supply of single-use plastic straws, stirrers, cutlery, bowls and plates and expanded polystyrene (EPS) food service items will also be banned. For more infomation on the ban, visit the Plastic Ban NSW website.
There has never been a better time for the City of Parramatta community to participate in the Plastic Free July challenge, try out plastic free alternatives and get ready for the Single-Use Plastic Ban.
Be part of the solution to plastic pollution! It can be as easy as picking one single-use plastic item to avoid or swapping a single-use plastic item for a reusable alternative.
Many people choose to avoid the top four single-use plastics:
- Take-away coffee cups
- Plastic shopping bags
- Plastic straws
- Water bottles
