OATH environmental monitoring project

The OATH (Outdoor Ambient Temperature Hierarchies of Parramatta) environmental monitoring project is a collaboration between Western Sydney University (WSU) and the City of Parramatta Council.

Temperature sensors

Over 120 temperature sensors were installed throughout the Parramatta Local Government Area over the summer of 2018-19 to monitor local ambient temperature.

Data

The data revealed new insights about the local climate of Parramatta, in particular the extent to which air temperature varies significantly across the City and the cooling effect of different tree species.

Findings

The findings have been documented in the Benchmarking Heat in Parramatta report.

Centenary Square Weather Station

A mini-weather station has also been installed in Centenary Square in Parramatta’s CBD that collects real-time localised environmental data.

You can view real-time data on the Centenary Square Weather Station page.
