About the First Nations Engagement Framework

From 2018—2022, Parramatta Artists Studios entered a period of significant consultation to develop a First Nations Engagement Framework (FNEF). This work was informed by consultation with First Nations artists – led by Ngurra Advisory, a 100% Aboriginal-owned business – and supported by City of Parramatta Council’s Community Capacity Building team. The FNEF is aligned to Create NSW Aboriginal Cultural Protocols and informs all future programming at Parramatta Artists Studios.

The FNEF outlines a vision of First Nations artists as embedded members and leaders in the PAS community. To achieve this, PAS will continue building respectful and responsible long-term relationships with First Nations artists and communities; champion the visibility of First Nations artists through programming and infrastructure; and support Dharug-lead studio programming and creation in the Parramatta region.

PAS' First Nations Engagement Framework won the Leo Kelly OAM Arts and Culture Award for Strategy/Plan at the 2023 Local Government Week Awards.
