Access to Information

Council releases information to members of the public in line with the Government Information (Public Access) Act which is widely known as the GIPA Act.

Under the GIPA Act, Council must acknowledge the right of members of the public to have access to our information providing there is no overriding public interest against disclosure. At all times, the presumption is in favour of disclosure.

The GIPA Act also:

  • Creates rights to information that are designed to meet community expectations of more open and transparent government; and
  • Encourages government agencies to proactively release information.
