Council’s Role and Future
Council’s Role
Council delivers a wide range of programs and services to the City of Parramatta, including waste collection, libraries, childcare, maintenance of local roads and public spaces, recreation facilities and programs, community care, special events and regulatory functions.
Council builds strategic partnerships with Federal and State Government agencies, the private sector, community organisations, and a range of other stakeholders whose work will contribute to delivering the long-term goals outlined in Council’s Community Strategic Plan.
When not in direct control or partnership, Council gives voice to the needs and aspirations of the community by advocating for changes in policy and action at relevant levels of government and industry to bring about the best outcomes for our community.
Council's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is Gail Connolly.
The Future
The City’s story continues to evolve with its population forecast to grow by nearly 50% between 2025–2046.
It is set to become Greater Sydney’s gateway to the world, with seamless connections to the rest of Greater Sydney, Australia and beyond with the introduction of Sydney Metro West and the nearby Western Sydney Airport.
The City is also on the cusp of the opening of the new Powerhouse Parramatta, the highly anticipated redevelopment of the Riverside Theatres, and the opening of Civic Link, Parramatta’s grand boulevard.
As it continues its journey towards becoming a global city in the heart of Sydney, the City of Parramatta is, and will continue to be, a natural gathering place, shaped by its history and inspired by its communities.
