Council meetings

What is live streaming?

Live streaming is the transmission over the Internet of video of an event as it happens in real time.

Council meetings are livestreamed.

How do I watch the livestream?

Most modern laptop and desktop computers and phones enable you to watch the livestream.


What internet connection speed is required?

To ensure the video plays smoothly, you will need a minimum connection speed of 450 KB/s for standard definition.


What amount of data is required?

While streaming a video, you will use approximately 3.3 MB per minute (450 kbps).


When is a recording of the livestream available?

In most cases, once a Council Meeting has concluded, the video will be available to watch online within five business days.

These will be available in the Council Meeting Livestream archive.

How do I make a submission on a development application?

Council typically seeks feedback on a development application, for a set period, from adjoining or nearby neighbours.

Rates

How do I pay my rates?

There are now a variety of ways to pay your rates, including a flexible payment option through Payble to help link your rates payments to your income flows.

What if I am experiencing financial hardship?

Council’s existing Rates Hardship Policy(PDF, 116KB)  will be available to assist ratepayers who are eligible for assistance.

How do I receive my rates via email?

Register to receive your rates notice by email in three easy steps:

  1. Go to Registration page
  2. Enter in your details including email address.
  3. Check your email inbox and click the validation link.

Once completed future notices will be sent via email. For further information please click ‘Your Rates Online’. 


Can Council change my land valuation?

No. The NSW Valuer General is the statutory independent valuing authority in NSW.

The valuation process is something Council cannot influence.


What if I don’t agree with my land valuation?

Waste and recycling

When is my bin going to be collected?

The City of Parramatta has three types of bins - red-lidded garbage, yellow-lidded recycling and green-lidded Food and Garden Organics bins.

What clean-up collection services does Council offer?

All City of Parramatta residents, who currently receive a Council domestic waste service, are eligible to access kerbside bulky waste clean-up collections.

These collections are a great opportunity to dispose of unwanted household items and garden materials.

Depending on your address, these collections are either:

  • Pre-booked, up to four times in the one calendar year; or
  • At scheduled times during the year.

No, Council does not pick up stray cats.


Does Council pick up injured wild animals?

Council Rangers are not trained to handle these animals.

What services are available to people over the age of 55?

How do I report a broken street light?

The majority of the City of Parramatta area has street lighting maintained by Endeavour Energy, but some areas are maintained by AusGrid. All issues should be reported to them respectively.

If you are unsure which organisation maintains the streetlights in your area, please speak with our Customer Contact Centre on 1300 617 058 to confirm.


How do I join the library?

You can find out more about joining on the membership page.

Membership is free and you'll need to provide identification (driver's licence or health card) to join.

If you are under 18, a parent or guardian is required to sign the form.

How do I research local history?

The Parramatta Heritage Centre houses the City Archives and the Local Studies Collection is where you can discover more about Parramatta's rich history.

While collections are non-lending, which means the resources can only be used in the Reading Room at the Centre, there are copying facilities available.

The Council Archivist and the Local Studies Librarian can provide information on the collections as well as assistance and advice.

Specific buildings and sites of heritage significance in the Parramatta Local Government Area are listed alphabetically by street and house number in the City of Parramatta Heritage Study.

The Teachers' Guide to Parramatta Heritage Sites is also a good start. Various published works about the history of individual buildings and houses in the area are also available.

Other library branches have a number of popular books on Parramatta's history which can be borrowed.


Parking and transport

How do I find out information about where to park in the City of Parramatta?

What do I do if the parking meter where I want to park my car is not working?

Please find another parking meter to obtain a parking ticket or you will be fined for parking without a valid parking ticket.


Can I get a parking permit?

You can if you live in the parking permit area.

To apply for a residential or visitor permit, you'll need the following details for eligible drivers and vehicles that will be using the permit:

  • current NSW driver's licence. If you have an overseas driver's licence, you will need to bring a photo ID and two utility bills (instead of a single utility bill)
  • current NSW vehicle registration. If you have a company vehicle you'll need written permission on company letterhead to use the vehicle
  • one of the following documents:
    • recent utility bill
    • rental lease agreement
    • bank statements
    • phone bills/lease agreements
    • Pensioner or student concession card if applying for a concessional rate

How do I get around Parramatta?

Parramatta CBD is easily accessible by train, bus, light rail and ferry.

The Parramatta transport interchange provides a gateway to Western Sydney by linking rail services with the Western Sydney Transitway Network, local buses and other transport services.

Parramatta also has a good cycling and walking network.

Yes, temporary food businesses at events need to be registered by Council.
