Rates

Property owners in the City of Parramatta are required to pay rates to Council.

These rates contribute to essential Council services and works, including in the following areas:

  • Local roads, guttering, signage and drainage
  • Cycleways, pools, golf and tennis courts
  • Parks, playgrounds, gardens, sports fields and nature reserves
  • Libraries, childcare centres, a range of community services for the elderly and youth, and neighbourhood safety projects
  • Community festivals, arts and cultural assistance
  • Town planning and development assessment.

Rates are Council’s most important revenue source.

Council’s rates are determined in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993, with some properties (such as churches, schools or hospitals) exempt from paying rates.
