Council’s Community Care team offers a wide range of services to help older Australians, people living with disability and frail community members to live their best life.

Every service and every support that Council offers is underpinned by research, and customised to personal needs, to ensure community members are provided with the best services possible.

Where possible, we deliver services that keep the people we support independent and strengthen their position within the home and community for as long as possible. This often means helping people to help themselves.

Community Care services are available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 and over, and for other community members aged 55 or 65 and over, depending on the service. You can check individual service pages for specific eligibility details.

If you have funding under the Australian Government’s Support at Home program, you may also be eligible for Council-delivered meals or Social Support. Contact our team to find out more.

Services under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) are available for people aged 18 and over.

Services

Community Assist Lawn Mowing (CALM)

To help you to remain independent in your own home by keeping your gardens maintained, Council provides a subsidised lawn mowing service and basic gardening for eligible residents in the LGA who are frail and aged, financially disadvantaged with no support to assist them.

To be eligible you must be registered with My Aged Care and have a referral code for Home Maintenance

Food Services

Parramatta Food Services offers nutritious, culturally diverse meals and food-based social programs for older adults who can’t cook or shop.

Services include Meals on Wheels™, Social Lunch, and Let’s Dine Out.

A My Aged Care referral code is needed for meals, and a Social Support code is required for social activities.

National Disability Insurance Scheme

City of Parramatta is a registered NDIS provider offering Support Coordination, meal delivery, peer group activities, and individual support for social, community and recreational needs.

Our Community Care Team works with participants to build capacity, foster inclusion and support social connection.

Over 55s Leisure and Learning Service

Council’s Over 55s Leisure and Learning Service provides an extensive range of physical and leisure activities to keep you moving and connected throughout the year for people over 55 years of age.

From Tai Chi to yoga and knitting to painting, there's something for everyone to enjoy whilst socialising in a fun and lively environment.

Social Inclusion

Our Social Inclusion program provides support for people who are frail and/or aged, people living with disability.

The program aims to help you feel more included, connected and valued in our community and builds on your existing skills, strengths, interest and networks.

To be eligible you must be registered with My Aged Care and have a referral code for Social Support.

Volunteering

The Community Care Volunteer Team is an essential component of the services provided to older people and people living with disability in the City of Parramatta local government area.

Volunteers engage in diverse roles to partner with and facilitate opportunities for each participant they support to promote their independence and improve their quality of life.

Volunteers are essential for us to operate many of our services for older people, adults living with disability and their carers.

If you are able to volunteer for a couple of hours every week and have a passion for helping your community consider joining our wonderful team of volunteers.
