Parramatta Square Wins 2024 Place Governance Award

Parramatta Square has been recognised as one of the best-managed public spaces in the region, winning the Place Governance Award at the 2024 Place Leaders Asia Pacific Awards in Darwin.

This marks the second time Parramatta Square has received this honour, following its 2022 win for the Parramatta Square Place Plan. The award celebrates excellence in governance and policy models that ensure the sustainable, transparent, and collaborative management of public spaces.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the award affirms the Square’s role as a central gathering place:

“Parramatta Square has become a destination in its own right—home to major events, civic hubs like PHIVE and Town Hall, and a vibrant mix of food, culture, and community. With over 7.6 million visits in 2024, it’s one of the City’s most popular and dynamic spaces.”

A Model for Sustainable Urban Governance

The award recognises the City’s innovative approach to place management, including its collaboration with Place Score and Place Intelligence to gather data and inform decision-making. This data-driven model ensures the Square remains resilient, inclusive, and adaptable to future challenges.

“This is a credit to our incredible staff and partners who make Parramatta Square a thriving, people-first space,” said Cr Zaiter. “It’s another step toward our vision of Parramatta CBD as the Headquarters District.”
