WPCCL SHP - The Fishbowl Collage (Ages 5 - 12)

Dive into the world of Henri Matisse focusing on his famous artwork The Goldfish(1912).

Young artist will explore the fundamental Element of Art: Shape by identifying organic and geometric forms in Matisse's work. Through a combination of watercolour painting and cut-paper collage, your artists will experiment with colour, form, and composition to create their own vibrant mixed-media artwork.

The session begins with a short group discussion about The Goldfish, highlighting Matisse’s use of bold colours, fluid brushstrokes, and expressive shapes.

Young artists will then:

Paint a watercolour artwork inspired by the themes and colours in The Goldfish.
Explore watercolour techniques including blending, layering, and mark-making.
Experiment with Matisse’s “drawing with scissors” method, using cut tissue papers to create fish, plants, and other imaginative shapes.
Combine painting and collage for a dynamic final artwork.

What they'll learn:

Understand and explore the concept of Shape in art, distinguishing between geometric and organic forms.
Develop fine motor skills through cutting, arranging, and gluing shapes.
Experiment with watercolour painting techniques (blending, layering, mark-making).
Enhance their visual storytelling by expressing ideas through both paint and collage.

When:

Session 1 - Monday 29 September, 10am - 12pm (2 hours)

Session 2 - Tuesday 7 October, 10am - 12pm (2 hours)

Where: Wentworth Point Community Centre and Library, Creative Studio

Who: Ages 5 - 12

Cost: $20 per session

What to bring: Drink bottle

All art materials will be provided.

Important Information for parents:

Parents of children 11 years or under will need to stay near the classroom whilst the classes take place and available to be contacted by the facilitator. This is part of the children in the library policy. It is a requirement to drop your child off for any class in the facility.
