Foundation Day returns to celebrate Parramatta’s story
Published on 08 October 2025
The City of Parramatta is inviting everyone to come together in November to celebrate Hambledon Cottage, one of the City’s most treasured historical sites, in true local style for the return of Foundation Day.
This year’s family-friendly and pet-friendly event is taking place on Saturday 1 November from 9am to 1pm– marking the date that agricultural projects commenced in Parramatta in 1788.
The event will feature a mix of talks and guided tours, free roving entertainment and activities – from live music, food and beverages and hands-on workshops to face painting and an animal farm.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the event promises to be a highlight on the local calendar.
“We’re excited to welcome families, friends, neighbours, visitors and pets from across the region to celebrate the unique identity, heart and history of Parramatta in a relaxed way,” Cr Zaiter said.
“Whether you’re a long-time local or new to the neighbourhood, Foundation Day is the perfect way to enjoy everything that makes Parramatta so special – all while exploring the City’s heritage sites, grabbing a coffee, petting farm animals and listening to some great live tunes.
“This is one of those rare days where you can reflect on Parramatta’s shared past, our diverse stories and families, and look toward our future with pride.”
Four food vendors on site will offer a variety of tasty breakfast and lunch options, whilst kids will enjoy an animal farm and free face painting.
To help make the day even more accessible, free parking will be available at St Ioannis Greek Orthodox Church (entry via Purchase Street) – a short walk to Hambledon Cottage Reserve, in addition to parking in surrounding streets – all subject to availability.
