Yarra Community Centre

A brand new community centre is coming to Carter Street Precinct, Lidcombe. The new Yarra Community Centre is a $6.13 million project funded through the NSW Government's Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program (formally known as WestInvest), situated on the ground floor in Meriton's new development at 8-10 Uhrig Road, Lidcombe (Carter Street Precinct).

Yarra Community Centre will be Council owned and operated, and feature bookable spaces including a main hall and three smaller multi-purpose rooms, a quiet study space with extended hours and digital library e-resources and services.

Community Centre Update

In January - February 2025, two proposed names were exhibited for community feedback to help name a brand new community centre in Carter Street Precinct, Lidcombe. Feedback was welcome until 5pm on Tuesday 11 February 2025. Thank you to all that provided feedback and had their say!

On Monday, 14 April 2025, Council considered the community's feedback and endorsed the name 'Yarra Community Centre', for the new centre located at 8-10 Uhrig Road, Lidcombe.

Yarra Community Centre (pronounced YAH-rra) is the First Nations Dharug language word for “gum tree, eucalyptus”. The eucalyptus is a central part of the ecosystem on Dharug Country and supports a number of animals including the koala with its wide branches and fragrant leaves. This name connects the local community with the First Nations language name for this iconic flora species native to the area. Council consulted with Traditional Owners to present this researched option.

This $6.13 million project is proudly funded by the NSW Government's Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program. The Yarra Community Centre will be delivered by City of Parramatta Council as part of its commitment to increasing the provision of community facilities across the City of Parramatta local government area.
