Update your pet's details

Keeping your pet’s microchip details up to date is essential and a legal requirement. Failing to update your contact information can result in a $180 on-the-spot penalty.

Even if your pet is microchipped and lifetime registered, outdated details can prevent us from contacting you if your pet is found or taken to an Animal Holding Facility.

When you need to update your pet’s details

You must notify Council or the NSW Pet Registry if:

  • you change your address or contact details.
  • you give away or sell your pet (including the new owner's details).
  • your pet goes missing or is found.
  • your pet passes away.

Keep your contact information current

To ensure we can reach you if your pet becomes lost:

  • Update your phone number, address and email on the NSW Pet Registry.
  • Provide a secondary contact to improve the chances of reconnecting you with your pet.
  • Use the form below to send updated details to Council if needed.

Change of ownership

If you’ve lost contact with the previous or new owner, submit a Statutory Declaration (signed by a Justice of the Peace) outlining the details of the ownership change.
