Music lovers and residents have the chance to immerse themselves in the soothing and relaxing sounds of Sydney Symphony Under the Stars: Pictures in the Sky when it returns to Parramatta next week.

Part of Sydney Festival, this free, non-ticketed event on Saturday, 20 January will feature the Sydney Symphony Orchestra led by guest conductor Benjamin Northey and is capped off by a spectacular fireworks display.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Pierre Esber said it’s the perfect night out.

"There’s a reason Symphony Under the Stars is a festival favourite – how often do you get a chance to enjoy a celebrated symphony orchestra under the stars for free,” Cr Esber said.

“This spectacular show is perfect for lovers of classical music or anyone looking for a relaxing evening taking in our beautiful Parramatta Park.

“The fireworks finale will cap off a magical night for the whole family.”

The show returns with a new program featuring the didgeridoo magic of William Barton, joined by Aunty Delmae Barton and Véronique Serret and the transportive sitar playing of Anoushka Shankar as well as John Williams’ iconic music from ET and the main title from Apollo 13

Sydney Festival Director Olivia Ansell said it’s an event that can’t be missed.

“It’s that time of year again where we invite local community and visitors to Parramatta to join us for this flagship major festival event that has become synonymous with Greater Sydney Parklands in January,” Ms Ansell said.

“Building on last year's success, this year's Symphony Under The Stars program titled Pictures in the Sky promises to elevate the park picnic experience with mesmerizing performances by William Barton, Aunty Delmae Barton, Véronique Serret, and world renowned sitar player Anoushka Shankar. Accompanied by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and guest conductor Benjamin Northey.

“We are especially excited to announce that this year's FREE event will feature a captivating drone show, adding extra layers of wonder to the night sky, followed by fireworks alongside the music of Strauss, Mussorgsky and Ravel to conclude the celebrations. We invite everyone, from families to music enthusiasts, to bring your picnic blankets and baskets, for this truly immersive music experience that will captivate people of all ages.”

Sydney Symphony Under the Stars: Pictures in the Sky is presented by Sydney Festival with City of Parramatta a proud program partner along with Parramatta Park and Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
