Frequently asked Questions

What is Ticketless Parking?

The Ticketless Parking system does not use physical tickets and instead adopts new Smart Parking technology to allow for a smoother, faster and hassle-free experience when entering and exiting our car parks.

How does Ticketless Parking work?

The system uses Licence Plate Recognition technology which reads each vehicle’s number plate on car park entry and exit, records the time of your stay and calculates your parking fee.

What are the benefits of Ticketless Parking?

  • Cuts the queues at the boom gate and payment machines - there will be no more paper jams, tickets being inserted incorrectly and wasted time locating the ticket.
  • Better environmental impact by removing paper waste.
  • Reduces the risk of losing your physical ticket - one less thing for you to remember to hold on to!
  • Provides a more consistent, efficient, quicker, and easier parking experience in Parramatta

How do I pay for my parking at a ticketless car park?

Your vehicle’s licence plate will be read and recorded when you approach the entrance and the boom gate will automatically lift for your entry. You can pay for your parking in 2 ways:

a) At the payment machine: Before leaving, visit the pay machine, enter your vehicle’s licence details, and make a payment. Then, drive to the exit boom gate in your vehicle where your licence plate will be scanned, and the boom gate will automatically lift to allow exit.

Quick tip: keep a photo of your licence plate or write your licence plate number down.

b) At the boom gate: Simply drive to the exit boom gate, wait for your vehicle’s licence plate to be scanned, make a payment and exit the car park when the boom gate is lifted.

Either way you choose to pay, no tickets will be issued, and cash payments will not be accepted.

Which car parks will have the Smart Parking technology and Ticketless Parking system?

Smart parking technology has now been installed all Council-owned multi-level car parks in Parramatta CBD.

Parramatta Station Car Park, Justice Precinct Car Park and Eat Street Car Park have recently adopted this technology with the technology already installed in Parramatta Square Car Park and Parramatta Aquatic Centre (PAC) Car Park since their opening.

Will there be any other Smart Parking technology upgrades?

Along with Licence Plate Recognition, the Council-owned multi-level car parks have installed the following Smart technology:

  • Real-Time Parking Guidance: Allows you to find an available parking spot more easily with new detention cameras and digital wayfinding signs.
  • Upgraded Lighting & CCTV: New lighting at entry and exit and updated CCTV for improved security and safety.
  • Cashless Parking: All Council car parks located in the Parramatta CBD have already transitioned to a fully cashless parking system since 7 February 2025. This includes Justice Precinct, Eat Street, Parramatta Station (Wentworth Street) Car Parks with Parramatta Aquatic Centre and Parramatta Square Car Parks already cashless since their opening.
  • Amenity Upgrades: All Council multi-level car parks have recently undergone amenity upgrades including newly painted and colour coordinated car park levels which consistent are across all Council car parks.

Justice Precinct Car Park goes Solar

The first of its kind for Council, the new 30KW solar panel canopy on the rooftop of Justice Precinct Car Park provides weather protection to vehicles, reduces radiant heat impact and carbon emissions, and saves on electricity costs.

Funded by the Department of Infrastructure under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI), this initiative is part of Council’s drive to reduce its community and corporate emissions by 60% and achieve 50% renewable electricity consumption by 2038.

The canopy system provides the Council with the opportunity to expand its solar footprint and is estimated to reduce the site’s electricity consumption by more than 40%

The system also provides an opportunity to install EV charging infrastructure in the future.

You can use Parking Finder to locate the Justice Precinct Car Park, all of Council’s 24-hr parking stations and on-street parking across the LGA.
