City in Nature

National Tree Day 2024

Man and Children planting trees

28 July 2024

National Tree Day is Australia's largest tree planting and nature care event! City of Parramatta has held National Tree Day events for the community to come together to improve our natural bushland for over a decade.

The objective of City of Parramatta’s National Tree Day 2024 event is to plant 10,000 native seedlings at the reserve along Dorahy Street in Dundas, continuing our multiyear rehabilitation and revegetation project at this site. The vegetation at this reserve is part of the critically endangered Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest Community, which is heavily fragmented and has only 0.5% of its original extent remaining intact. The aim of this project is to stabilise the creek line and provide essential habitat for our native wildlife.

Come along to this family friendly event and take part in this community planting project, enjoy a free BBQ lunch as well as a wildlife display, free native plant give-away and other educational stalls.

Where: Upjohn Park Reserve, opposite 9 Dorahy Street, Dundas.

When: 10am – 1pm Sunday 28th of July.

Cost: This event is free!

How to get there: There is street parking available along Dorahy and adjoining streets. The 521 Bus from Eastwood to Parramatta along Kissing Point road, Spurway street stop, is a less than 10 minute walk to the site.

What we provide: all registered attendees will be provided with gloves and tools to conduct planting. The gloves can be kept but the tools must be returned after use. As a thank you a free BBQ lunch catered by Lions Club will also be available to participants. There will be toilets and drinking water available on site.

What you should bring: Please ensure that you wear covered footwear, eg. sneakers or boots. Anyone without appropriate footwear will not be allowed to take part in planting. We also advise that you wear long pants and long sleeved shirts that you don’t mind getting dirty. Please bring along a water bottle, there will be no bottled water available on the day but we will have a water bottle refill station. The event will go ahead in all weather unless hazardous so bring a poncho or rain coat.

Accessibility: The site is both mown grass and bushland and is on a slight slope. We will have activities for all abilities to enjoy. There will be a wheelchair accessible portaloo on site. Please get in touch with us at bushcare@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au if you have any questions.
