Epping Aquatic Centre to close for $26 million upgrade

City of Parramatta Council is progressing the upgrade of Epping Aquatic Centre (EAC). A Development Application was lodged January 2024 where the community was able to view the concept design and provide feedback. To prepare the site for redevelopment, EAC will close to the public on Tuesday 30 April 2024.

Key upgrades

A much-loved community asset, EAC will remain in its current bushland setting. The redevelopment will see several important upgrades to the facility:

  • A new amenities building will include a ground floor reception area, change facilities for all users, including families, a dedicated first aid room, and enclosed access to a new indoor pool. The building will also meet accessibility requirements.
  • Improved accessibility by installing a level open walkway from the existing car park to the new amenities building and two lifts connecting both levels (as well as a formal stairwell)
  • A new 20m indoor pool with an access ramp will be built that will increase our capacity to deliver more Learn to Swim classes as well as other aquatic programs.
  • Our popular 50m outdoor heated pool will be given a facelift. A major upgrade to the entire pool filtration system will allow greater ability for management and maintenance of water quality and temperature control.
  • The current outdoor shallow pools will be refurbished to create an exciting family waterplay area that will provide a safe, interactive and shaded area for all to enjoy.

What’s happening next?

After the closure of EAC, the facility will be decommissioned, and the public will not be able to access it. Council anticipates that a builder will be appointed later this year and construction to commence soon after. Further, there will be some changes access changes to the Terry’s Creek track as a result of the site works.

Dence Park Masterplan

City of Parramatta Council received feedback from the community in 2018–2019, and we have prepared a Dence Park Masterplan, which was endorsed in December 2019.

In April 2020, Council endorsed the Dence Park Masterplan Implementation Plan.

The aim of the implementation plan is to provide a clear and strict cost-controlled method for Council to develop the high level master plan into detailed design for tender and construction.
