Major upgrades in 2024

Following a $1.4 million transformation, Lake Parramatta opened for the 2024/2025 Swim season with a safer and more accessible swimming, while maintaining Council’s objective to preserve the natural feel of the swimming area. Designs for the upgrades also reflected community consultations.

Improvements included

  • Construction of an underwater retaining wall to create a sand bed or ‘beach’ within the swimming area to make entering and exiting the water easier.
  • Increasing safe water access through construction of footpaths, and other accessibility features such as handrails and traction treatments for steps.
  • Installation of a formal lifeguard viewing platform providing improved sightlines over the swimming area for lifeguards. The installation of an onsite emergency response beacon.
  • Installation of an outdoor shower and creation of new shaded areas, landscaping, garden beds and other features to improve the community’s enjoyment of the swimming area and its natural surrounds. Six (6) four-metre-high Eucalyptus trees and thousands of indigenous plant species restored bushland areas. Sandstone walls were installed to provide seating.
  • New signage, and a water-safety community education program completed the upgrades at this popular swimming destination.

The works were proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with Council.
