Free Plant Day

Residents in the Parramatta Local Government Area (LGA) are invited to collect up to four free plants from Council’s nursery in Ermington this Free Plant Day.

There will be thousands of plants available to suit all kinds of residences – from houses to apartments.

We are giving away these plants as part of our commitment to greening our neighbourhoods, which in turn will help make Parramatta a cooler and more liveable city.

When: 8.30am - 12.30pm, 6 March
Where: Nursery in Cowell’s Lane Reserve near the corner of Cowell’s Lane and Monroe Street, Ermington

  • Planting trees or shrubs outside windows, walls or doors that face west could reduce air-conditioning costs by up to 30 per cent.
  • Shading hard surfaces like driveways and paved areas could make them up to 7 degrees Celsius cooler.
  • Mature trees can release up to 150 litres of water vapour a day, cooling the air by up to 5 degrees Celsius.

Over the past five years, Council has planted more than 500,000 trees, native shrubs and ground covers across the Parramatta LGA. We also host one of the largest National Tree Day planting events in Australia, with about 1,000 residents planting more 10,000 indigenous seedlings each year.

Free Plant Day is a COVID-safe event, and residents will need to provide an ID with proof of address to access their free plants.
