Historical Research Library

All City of Parramatta Libraries are temporarily closed. This decision was made in response to the current circumstances presented by Coronavirus (COVID-19). Visit City of Parramatta's COVID-19 webpage for the latest information.

City of Parramatta operates a Local Studies and Family History Library that offers workshops, talks and displays throughout the year and an extensive collection of multimedia resources to help you research your ancestry, house history and the local area. The collection includes:

  • old maps and newspapers that provide a glimpse into the past
  • photographs from 1860, including images of historic buildings and churches, as well as street scenes of Parramatta and the surrounding districts
  • books to help beginner genealogists learn how to conduct and organise their research.

Qualified staff and volunteers are available to assist you with family and local history research.  Many resources can be accessed on our Archives website while original objects, texts, family history, records and maps can be viewed at the research library. Selected images are also available from our picture and map collections for purchase.

Please contact the Library to make an appointment with the Genealogy or Regional Studies facilitators.
