Sir Thomas Mitchell Reserve

A sunny, clear day at a large, grassy rugby field with goalposts, surrounded by a low metal fence, trees, and houses in the distance. Calm and open.

Environmental studies at Sir Thomas Mitchell Reserve – February 2026

From Monday 2 to Friday 6 February 2026, City of Parramatta will be undertaking environmental studies on the edges of the sports field at Sir Thomas Mitchell Reserve, Dundas. Monitoring will continue until June 2026.
Please see our project page for more information.

Sir Thomas Mitchell Reserve features a sports field, an amenities block, and a small playground which is set approximately 20 metres back from Alexander Street.

History

This reserve was originally the site of a quarry, which has since been filled and repurposed. In 1832, Thomas Livingstone Mitchell—later known as Sir Thomas Mitchell—recognized the strategic importance of the quarry and directed its use for metalling the streets of Sydney’s suburbs, contributing to the early development of the city’s infrastructure.
