Sportsground Strategy and Action Plan

Sportsground Strategy and Action Plan

The Sportsground Strategy and Action Plan provides strategic frameworks and direction for future sportsground upgrades and provision to support our growing community to live active and healthy lives. It also includes an action plan of work, to address focus areas which outline short, medium and long term priorities over the next 20-years. The action plan will assist Council and its partners in advocating for and aligning resources to recommended projects.

The vast majority of the shortfall (approximately 45%) can be addressed through improving existing sportsground sites such as improved surfaces, drainage, maintenance and lighting. The remainder of the shortfall is anticipated to be met through measures that increase the carrying capacity and supply of the City’s sportsground network such as the consideration of alternative surfaces, increasing community access to fields not owned by Council and delivering new facilities.

Some projects are small and easy to deliver; others are large and will require the collection of developer contributions and significant planning and consultation before they can commence. Reviews will be undertaken to consider progress of implementation, community need, infrastructure demand analysis and costs, contemporary trends in sport and recreation, resource availability and identifies new opportunities and constraints.
