Secondary dwellings are a self-contained dwelling that is established in conjunction with a principal dwelling. A secondary dwelling must be on the same lot of land as the principal dwelling.
Please refer to the development principles of your relevant Development Control Plan to determine the building requirements for secondary dwellings.
Refer to secondary dwellings in SEPP Affordable Rental Housing 2008 to determine if secondary dwellings are approved in your zone and what criteria must be met. Please note you cannot subdivide a secondary dwelling as it must remain on the same lot as the primary dwelling, more information is available in the SEPP.
