Eat Parramatta campaign - your winter passport to the city’s tastiest experiences

From the sizzling aromas of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean grills to the comforting flavours of Southeast Asia, some of Parramatta’s most well-known eateries are sharing their stories as the City transforms into the latest foodie destination.

Parramatta foodie institutions including Malaysian restaurant Temasek, Greek stalwart Kouzina Greco and Lebanese sensation Sahra By The River have all served the community and visitors for over 20 years, whilst the City also has welcomed a range of new food trends as it has grown into a food and entertainment hotspot.

This year, they have joined Council’s annual EAT Parramatta campaign alongside many others, including newcomers Sabah Eatery, Henrietta and Ippudo. This campaign is designed to promote the City’s diverse hospitality and entertainment options to bring visitors and tourists from near and far.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the City has a lot to offer diners, from street food to culinary delights, making Parramatta foodie heaven.

“Whether it’s something new or one of the Parramatta’s most well-known establishments, the City is home to some of the best kept secrets in the Australian food scene that put us on the map as a true culinary destination,” Cr Zaiter said.

“The secret ingredient that makes Parramatta successful is the authenticity of cuisines from a rich diversity of our people, served from the heart.

“With more than 128 nationalities, over 117 languages spoken and more than half our population born overseas, we are one of the most vibrant multicultural melting pots in Australia, reflected in our dynamic food scene.”

The EAT campaign will feature a video series on AT Parramatta’s social media channels over five weeks, plus additional Instagram and TikTok content from Sydney-based food and travel content creator Nat Larcos.

Cr Zaiter said the EAT campaign was another way that Council was supporting local businesses to help them thrive.

“Council has taken steps to support our night-time economy and built a flourishing hospitality industry. We have streamlined the development application process making it easier for businesses to operate 24/7 in parts of the CBD. These measures are attracting more night life to our city and stimulating our hospitality scene,” Cr Zaiter said.

“We are proud of what we offer in our CBD and across all our suburbs. Campaigns like this are more important than ever as we grow our billion-dollar economy.”

Sahra By The River owner Jad Nehme said a lot has changed in the City since his first day at the restaurant.

“Since starting at Sahra By The River in 2011 as a waiter, I have watched Parramatta and its food scene grow massively and we have benefited from this growth with more and more people wanting to explore the CBD’s traditional eateries,” Mr Nehme said

“Sahra By The River not only has some of the best Lebanese cuisine in Greater Sydney, but it’s steeped in history and is part of the wider migration story that makes Parramatta the diverse global City that it is today.

“We are proud to be part of the EAT Parramatta campaign and hope more people take a trip west of Sydney’s CBD to come and enjoy an experience they will never forget.”
