It’s party time in Granville with major road upgrades complete

Granville is set to host the ultimate street party to celebrate the completion of a significant upgrade of Good and Bridge Streets.

The celebration will prove to be a traffic stopper for a good cause with plenty of live music, roving entertainers, food trucks and, of course, alfresco dining.

Member for Granville Julia Finn said the $8.4 million upgrade funded by the NSW Government has transformed the suburban centre into a state-of-the-art smart street.

“Not only is the precinct now more welcoming, but it is also fully equipped with CCTV, self-compacting solar bins, humidity and temperature sensors which trigger automatic misting, smart digital screens and even tables fitted out with mobile charging stations,” Ms Finn said.

Member for Parramatta Donna Davis said the project is another great example of what can be achieved for the community when local and state government’s work together on a shared goal.

“The NSW Government is continuing its work in helping to revitalise the Parramatta Road Corridor through its $198 million Parramatta Road Urban Amenity Improvement Program (PRUAIP),” Ms Davis said.

“The program brings state agencies and councils together to collaborate on projects that will improve public amenity in the corridor.

“It’s fantastic to see this project come to life and to know it will be enjoyed by the community for generations to come.”

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Sameer Pandey said the upgrades help Granville to come of age and move into the 21st century.

“Granville is growing and a modern facelift for one of Sydney’s most family friendly suburbs is well deserved,” Cr Pandey said.

“From screens featuring bus and train timetables and weather information to mobile phone power charge tables, the differences are stark.

“Good and Bridge Streets are in the heart of Granville and the addition of new tree planting, new wider footpaths for outdoor dining, new street furniture, lighting and traffic calmed roads create a warm atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.”

A line-up of performances, including Indian Bollywood DJ Shailen and Lebanese drummers, will be on hand to get the party started.

Burgerhead and Sri Dakshin Eats will be among the food trucks providing sensational food throughout the night, while local businesses will be offering plenty of specials. Children can get creative with workshops presented by Parramatta Artists Studio.

“The Good and Bridge Street party will showcase the best of Granville, while celebrating a major construction milestone,” Cr Pandey said.

The street party event runs from 4pm-9pm, Saturday 24 June with local traffic diversions in place between 12pm-12am for Good Street, between Bridge Street and Cowper Street.

The Good and Bridge Street project was fully funded by the NSW Government’s Parramatta Road Urban Amenity Improvement Program and delivered by the City of Parramatta. For more information, visit: participate.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/good-and-bridge-streets
