Toy, Clothes and Book swap coming to Parramatta’s PHIVE

PHIVE is hosting the City of Parramatta’s first ever Toy, Clothes and Book Swap event to bring the community together and help ease the cost of living and reduce landfill.

This free, fun and sustainable event on Saturday, 19 July will help turn one person’s trash into another’s treasure with locals encouraged to bring their used toys, clothes and books to swap for something different.

The initiative, led by Council’s Sustainability team, is designed to help curb our community’s contribution to the more than 300,000 tonnes of textile, toys and books that end up in Australia’s landfill each year.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the event is another step Council is taking to bring people together to create a sense of community while supporting locals with the rising cost of living.

“The Toy, Clothes and Book Swap adds to a myriad of cost saving initiatives Council has implemented including reduced parking costs, reduced Parramatta Town Hall hiring fees and even group personal training sessions at PAC,” Cr Zaiter said.

“Many of us have toys, clothes and books at home that are in good condition but no longer needed – this is the perfect way to make someone’s day and swap your old items for something new.

“It’s also a great excuse for a clean-up around the house and a chance to give any unwanted items a new lease of life rather than sending them to landfill.”

This is the first time Council has hosted a toy, clothes and book swap and follows the success of an adult book swap held previously.
