Key Cycling Routes
There have been some exciting recent improvements to the City of Parramatta cycling network - click on the links below to find out more.
T-Way project - Windsor to Westmead
Pedestrians and cyclists can now enjoy boardwalks, priority crossings, a new 75-metre-long bridge, and dedicated walking and cycling paths with the completion, in December 2024, of the North-West T-way Paths project through Constitution Hill.
New paths for walking and cycling, have removed three of the last four on-road sections between Parramatta and Windsor, making the route much easier and safer.
Now completely separate from traffic, the new walking and cycling paths are complemented by a new 5m wide bridge over Toongabbie Creek that has plenty of room to move, and space for people to stop and enjoy the view.
Parramatta Light Rail Active Transport Link
A 5.7km walking and riding path opened in late 2024 alongside the Parramatta Light Rail service between Boundary Rd in Carlingford and Tramway Avenue in Parramatta.
The active transport path features multiple access points, as well as bike racks, seating, water stations, journey maps, signs, and motion-sensor LED lighting.
The route also provides some of the best scenic views of Western Sydney. Pedestrians and bike riders can travel over James Ruse Drive using the new Bidgee Bidgee Bridge in Rosehill.
The path also connects people to various transport options, including the Alfred Street bridge link over Parramatta River and the Alfred Street Cycleway.
Please visit the TfNSW website for more information.
Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 connects Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia.
Alfred Street Cycleway
Stage 2A of the Alfred Street Pedestrian and Cyclist Upgrade, which connects key spots from Granville to the picturesque Parramatta River, is now open.
This includes new paths between Eleanor Street and Clay Cliff Creek, as well as new street trees and raised crossings.
Construction on the final section between Clay Cliff Creek and George Street (Stage 2B) has now started and is planned for completion in late 2025. This will include wider path connections to local schools on either side to help get more kids riding and walking.

Escarpment Boardwalk
The Escarpment Boardwalk opened in 2021, connecting Parramatta Park to Melrose Park through a completely off-road walking and cycling path along the Parramatta River.
Co-funded by Council and the NSW Government, this $18 million project is the final link in the popular Parramatta Valley Cycleway.
It includes a section of pathway cantilevered around the Parramatta River.
As part of the project, Council has also delivered two new sets of stairs, providing direct access from the boardwalk to Stewart Street and Macarthur Street for students of Macarthur Girls High School and the public.
With this new connection, the community can now experience over 20km of off-road paths on both sides of the Parramatta River.
The paths wind through open parks, local playgrounds and sporting fields, as well as mangroves on elevated boardwalks and in some sections through a tree canopy six metres off the ground!
