Water Dragon Way - a new stairway to heavenly green is now open

New sandstone stairs along the Water Dragon Way have made enjoying nature walks safer and easier for our community.

Located at the south end of Goodin Road, Model Farms Reserve, Winston Hills, the staircase climbs 4m of rock escarpment and starts a 2.3km walk through diverse bushland reserves to join the Pemulwuy Loop Walking Track.

Replacing 20-year-old wooden stairs, the project - built over five weeks - now highlights the natural sandstone in the area.

In addition to constructing the new stairs, the Natural Areas Team planted many new trees and stabilised a section of path damaged by stormwater flows.

Water Dragon Way runs along the Quarry Branch Creek, between Moxhams Road, Northmead, and Goodin Road, Winston Hills.

Along the 1hr 40min return trip, the track is a mixture of natural earth and rocky path including some rock and wooden stairs. Walking from south to north is a consistent incline.

Visitors can expect to see a stunning Sydney Turpentine Iron bark forest and magnificent Smooth-bark Apple trees.

In addition to being home to dragons, this old-growth bushland supports endangered species of plants, birds and bats.
