What is hazardous waste?
Mobile Community Recycling Service
Parramatta and Cumberland City Councils have launched a Mobile Community Recycling Service, which provides residents with a free and easy way to recycle household hazardous wastes, including:
- gas bottles
- fire extinguishers
- paint
- batteries (car and household batteries)
- oils (motor and cooking)
- fluoro lights and smoke detectors
Residents must book a pick up on the Problem Waste website, or call Council's Waste Hotline on 9806 5544.
Only household quantities will be accepted in 20kg or 20L maximum container sizes.
Community Recycling Centre and household chemical clean out events
There are no current events, however common household wastes, including fluorescent lights, smoke detectors, paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, batteries and oils, can be be taken to your local Community Recycling Centre throughout the year.
Check the EPA website for the next Chemical CleanOut event.
If there is no Community Recycling Centres near you, you can also take these items, and others, to a Chemical Clean Out event for safe disposal and recycling.
