At an event to be hosted by Simon Marnie, Elizabeth Walton and Richard Lawson will launch their collaborative project, How To Ready a City, Your Place of Last Resort at WestWords Parramatta on Thursday 29th of May. This immersive literary and listening experience presents Elizabeth's poetry cycle and Richard's classical suite recorded by the Acacia String Quartet. This collaborative work explores the beauty and sadness of the times we live in. During this sensory-rich convergence of poetry and the ephemeral magic of classical music, the artists will respond to Q & A's from one of Australia's favourite interviewers, Simon Marnie.
About the Artists
Elizabeth Walton is a Tom Collins Poetry Prize, Furphy and Woollahra Digital Literary Awards finalist, who writes for The Guardian, Artshub and literary magazines in Australia and overseas. She recently completed her Masters of Creative Writing at Macquarie University with a university Award for Academic Excellence and is now completing her PhD in Creative Writing. Ex-Lime Spiders punk rock drummer Richard Lawson is a triple Aria nominated multi-instrumentalist who supported Blondie, Iggy Pop and Ramones on international stages, playing to sold out gigs over 10,000 people, a regular on Countdown and the first drummer to perform on ABC’s RAGE.
During his solo career he has released 25 albums collaborating with other artists across multiple genres. In this collaboration, Richard has composed a suite for string quartet, inspired by Elizabeth’s poetry. Performed by the Acacia String Quartet and recorded at Four Winds, this launch event will be presented as a deep soundscape listening experience in a work shaped by nature, impermanence, and the act of finding beauty in decline.
Elizabeth will also be releasing her poetry pamphlet, Anti AI Aesthetic, a bespoke rare edition imprint which presents a selection of works from her collaboration with Richard Lawson.
