Put your bin out the night before collection day

If you live in a larger unit complex, please contact your strata or community manager for your waste collection processes. If you place your bins kerbside, please follow the steps below.

Bins must be placed at the kerbside the night before the relevant collection day.

Ensure your bin is not too heavy, overflowing or has dangerous items

Bins may not be collected if they:

  • Are overflowing, with the bin lid unable to be properly closed - this situation can encourage vermin.
  • Too heavy (bins may not be collected if they weigh more than 70kgs)
  • Contain dangerous or unacceptable material in your bin such as hot coals, batteries, chemicals or sharps.

Household batteries cannot be placed in any of your kerbside collection bins as they are a fire risk for collection vehicles. You can drop household batteries to one of our libraries or book in a free problem waste collection.

Check out this downloadable guide(PDF, 2MB) or this A-Z list for what is allowed, and not allowed, in your bin.

Repeat or serious breaches of Council’s bin collection protocols may result in the collection service being withdrawn.

Ensure your bin is in the right spot

Please ensure that your bin:

  1. Is placed at least 1m away from the trees, poles or cars
  2. Has a 30cm space from other bins
  3. Is not placed on, or blocking storm water drain pit/grates.
  4. Has its lid opening facing the road
  5. Does not have access to it blocked by objects or cars

Ensure your bin is promptly removed after collection

Bins must be removed from the kerbside and returned back to the property by the end of the collection day.

Bins must be kept on the resident’s premises at all other times and not in a public place unless prior written approval has been obtained from Council.

Bins left in a public place for longer than the calendar day of the bin’s collection may be removed and enforcement action may be taken.
