Better Ageing Gentle Exercise - Monday 10AM - Online - T4 2025

Aim for a healthy lifestyle and join the Active Parramatta Van for Better Ageing Gentle Exercise, a low intensity and low impact exercise class designed to boost your overall health and wellbeing. Each session incorporates a mix of; light aerobics, balance, co-ordination, strength and mobility exercises designed to reduce your risk of; slips, trips and falls, improve joint mobility and promote great muscle, heart and lung health.

Modifications will be provided to cater for beginners and most fitness levels. Chairs will be used to assist and support exercises. Other equipment required will include: Hand weights (water bottle, canned food or dumbbell) and/or light resistance bands and small ball for throwing and catching.

Classes are delivered via the Zoom meeting platform. 

The Zoom access link and password will be found in the Bookable order confirmation email (please check your Junk Mail folder if you have not received the confirmation email before contacting our team).

Important Information

It is our duty of care to ensure you are fit for exercise. When registering for Active Parramatta Van programs you will be asked the following Pre-Exercise Question:

Do you have any known diseases or family history, signs or symptoms of disease, which may place you at higher risk of an adverse event during physical activity/exercise? e.g Diabetes, heart or vascular or thyroid disease, osteoporosis etc?

If you answered YES, You MUST seek exercise clearance from your GP before you are able to participate in classes. Please email your exercise clearance letter to apvan@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au.

  • Spaces are limited. We employ a “first in best dressed” policy.
  • Registrations are essential to participate in any program.
  • If your circumstances change and you are no longer able to attend, you MUST cancel via Bookable and email apvan@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.auinforming of your cancellation (include your name and class name).
  • Your attendance is important. Program continuation is subject to participation over time and community interest.
  • It is the responsibility of the participant to communicate any and all medical issues/injuries with the facilitator prior to the event.
  • Participants attend classes at their own risk. 
  • Cameras on with background blurred is highly recommended for safety to help facilitators monitor participants during the class

Is there an age limit?

Over 55 years

Are the sessions recorded?

Sessions are not recorded and are live each week via Zoom.

Can I participate with my camera switched off?

To best benefit from your sessions, it is advised to turn your camera on to allow staff to supervise for exercise safety and provide personalised feedback. However, this is not compulsory and you may leave your camera off if this is preferred.

What technology will I need?

A computer, tablet or smartphone and good internet access is necessary for a quality experience. It is strongly advised to download the Zoom App and close all unnecessary background programs during class to ensure a clear signal.

What should I bring to each session?

Please wear appropriate non-restrictive clothing, supportive footwear (e.g. joggers or runners), a water bottle, towel, an exercise mat, a sturdy chair, and anything else specified by the event facilitator. 

How much space do I need?

A minimum area of 2 x 2 metres for online classes.

How can I prepare my room for the class?

Allocate an area in your house that allows freedom to move and extend arms out to the side and above your head. Allow for adequate lighting, ventilation and clear the floor of any trip hazards.

Can I update my registration information?

Yes, you can update your information via the Bookable website. You'll need to create a login.

Program Cancellations

If your circumstances change and you are no longer able to attend, you MUST cancel via Bookable and email apvan@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au informing of your cancelation (include your name and class name).

The Recreation Programs and Services Team make every effort to ensure advertised events run. However, we reserve the right to alter the program either before or during the class/event and to cancel any program if insufficient enrolments are received. If the Recreation Programs and Services Team cancels a course, you will be informed via your provided email address.

Can I register as I go? Casual sessions?

Council does not provide this option; attendance is a term-based package.

The term has already started. Can I still join?

Enrolments remain open throughout the term, participants may join at any time provided space is available.

I am recovering from an injury. Can I still participate?

It is suggested that you seek medical clearance from your GP or health care professional. Participation is done so at your own risk.

Do classes still run during adverse weather?

Participants will be contacted via email up to 3hrs prior to the event if classes need to be cancelled due to adverse weather or unforeseen circumstances.
