Parramatta Aquatic Centre Makes Global Waves with Triple Architecture Win
The Parramatta Aquatic Centre (PAC) has captured international and national acclaim, winning three prestigious awards in just three days, including top honours at the 2024 World Architecture Festival in Singapore.
PAC was named:
- Best Completed Building – Sport at the World Architecture Festival
- Best Public Architecture at the Australian Institute of Architects National Awards
- Sir Walter Burley Griffin Award for Urban Design, Australia’s highest honour for urban design
The World Architecture Festival is the largest global celebration of architectural excellence, with PAC triumphing over entries from Slovenia, Mexico, and China.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the wins are a landmark moment for the City:
“Talk about making a splash! These awards prove that PAC is not only a world-class facility but a symbol of our bold vision for Parramatta as a global city.”
A Benchmark in Design and Community Impact
PAC was designed by Grimshaw, Andrew Burges Architects, and McGregor Coxall, and built by Lipman. The facility has quickly become a benchmark for health and wellness infrastructure, blending cutting-edge design with community functionality.
Grimshaw Sydney Managing Partner Michael Janeke said:
“PAC has been recognised with an almost unprecedented number of public awards this season. It’s a testament to the exemplary collaboration between architects, Council, and project partners.”
A Year of Recognition
These latest wins add to PAC’s growing list of accolades, including:
- Sir John Sulman Medal – NSW Architecture Awards
- Facility of the Year, Lifeguard of the Year, and Marketing & Communications – 2024 ARI NSW Awards
