City River Foreshore Transformation
The City of Parramatta is moving forward with plans to transform the Parramatta City River Foreshore and bring to life the vision for Parramatta as Sydney’s Central River City.
Endorsed by Council in 2015, the Parramatta City River Strategy is a comprehensive plan to transform the City River Foreshore into a vibrant public space that connects to the city, celebrates the history and culture of the Parramatta River, and is resilient to flooding.

The Parramatta City River Strategy provides a framework for the City of Parramatta’s program of public domain works along the river foreshore.

Located at the head of the harbour, Parramatta Quay is the river entry point to our City. As the western counterpart to Circular Quay, it is the terminus to a historic harbour journey.
Revitalisation of Parramatta Quay is being realised through several landmark projects, including the Parramatta Ferry Wharf Upgrade (completed), the Escarpment Boardwalk (construction 2020), and the Charles Street Square Upgrade (design 2020).
February 2020: Charles Street Square Upgrade
The City of Parramatta will be publicly exhibiting draft plans for the Charles Street Square upgrade from 25 February 2020 to 16 March 2020. Community feedback is essential to ensuring Charles Street Square becomes a welcoming public space that caters for all users.

February 2020: Escarpment Boardwalk Construction
Construction on Parramatta River’s long-awaited Escarpment Boardwalk will shortly commence at Parramatta Quay. Construction is expected to be completed by early 2021, however, this may change as the project progresses.

Charles Street Square Upgrade
Charles Street Square at Parramatta Quay has been a gathering place for locals and visitors for thousands of years – and now it’s getting a major upgrade.
The area adjacent to the new Parramatta Ferry Wharf will be transformed into a vibrant public space, an accessible entry point to our City that celebrates the Parramatta River.

The Escarpment Boardwalk is an important missing link in the Parramatta Valley Cycleway. The riverside pedestrian and cyclist boardwalk will connect Parramatta Park to Melrose Park and will include new stairs to Stewart and Macarthur Streets for safe access for locals and school students.
